A Quick Guide to Measuring for a Flower Girl Dress

Is there anything more beautiful than watching your little angel walk down the aisle? Really, it’s perhaps the most exciting moment in her entire life. You see, no little girl can resist the prospect of wearing a fancy dress.

At Sara Dresses, we pride ourselves on having a vast selection of the cutest, most adorable flower girls dresses. Your little one will absolutely feel like the princess she is wearing them. But it all boils down to custom order. That’s why it is crucial to measure your little girl to ensure that the flower girl dress will fit snugly on the big day.

Here’s a brief step-by-step guide on how to measure for the perfect flower girl dress.

Step #1: Getting Ready
A soft tape measure is a must-have for this task. You can find one for a few bucks in the sewing section of any craft or department store. You may also need to have a paper and pencil handy to note down your little one’s measurements.

Before you start measuring, ensure that she is wearing form-fitting garments or just undergarments. Baggy or bulky clothes are a big no-no. Explain to your princess that she should breathe naturally (i.e., without holding her breath or sucking in her stomach) while standing with good posture.

Step #2: Measure Her Chest
With arms in a relaxed position, wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of the chest, making sure it goes under her arms. Make sure that the tape is parallel to the floor before recording the measurement.

Step #3: Measure Her Waist
Measure around the child's natural waist near the belly button, and not over the pant. The tape should also be parallel to the floor.

Step #4: Measure the Height
There’s always nothing you can do about the length of the dress; however, it is crucial to measure her height. Measure from the top of the head to the floor, making sure that she's standing in stocking feet together and back to a wall.
